Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 10, 2026

ColorTalk is an offline iPad app that teaches children the English alphabet through coloring. The app and this policy are in English only. This policy is written for parents and caregivers. The short version is: ColorTalk keeps your child's progress, profile, and settings on the iPad. It sends only crash reports and anonymous app-usage counts, to Google Firebase, so we can fix bugs and improve the app.

What We Collect

ColorTalk does not collect personal information from your child. The app does not have accounts, sign-in, cloud sync, remote child content, ads, purchases, social features, or tracking.

ColorTalk sends only crash reports and anonymous app-usage counts, to Google Firebase (Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics for Firebase):

ColorTalk does not send the child's nickname or age, progress, drawings, learned words, quiz answers, settings, audio, or transcripts to us or anyone else. It does not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA) or the identifier for vendors (IDFV). These reports are sent only when the iPad is online. The app works fully offline.

What Stays on the Device

ColorTalk saves a small amount of data locally so the app can work and remember progress. This data is stored in the app's private on-device storage, including a local JSON progress file and iPad app settings.

Local data may include:

This local data stays on the iPad. We cannot view it, use it, sell it, share it, or retrieve it remotely.

If you back up the iPad with iCloud Backup or to a computer, that backup includes this local data, as it does for other apps. ColorTalk does not send it to us.

Microphone and Speech

Counting questions use tap answers. Voice answers are optional and off by default. A parent can turn them on or off in the Parents area, which is behind a grown-up question. ColorTalk asks for microphone and speech-recognition permission only for voice answers.

When the child gives a voice answer, ColorTalk uses Apple's on-device speech recognition and requires on-device recognition. Microphone audio is processed on the iPad only. ColorTalk does not record, store, or transmit microphone audio.

The recognized transcript is used only in the moment to decide whether the child answered the bundled counting question. ColorTalk does not store the transcript. The local progress file may store only the quiz word and whether the answer was correct or incorrect, so the parent dashboard can show learning progress.

If microphone or speech permission is denied, the child can still tap the answer.

No Ads, Tracking, or Third Parties

ColorTalk does not show ads and does not track children across apps or websites.

Google Firebase is the only third-party service. It processes the crash reports and usage counts above for us, as a service provider (https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy). We set it up for children: no advertising identifier, no ad personalization, no ad-network attribution, no Google Signals, no data sharing with other Google products, and no user identifier. We use the data only to fix crashes and to see which parts of the app work, never for advertising or profiling. Usage counts are kept for 2 months and crash reports for 90 days.

ColorTalk does not use advertising SDKs, behavioral profiling, or data brokers. All pages, words, and prompts are in the app.

Data Deletion

Parents can use Reset Progress in Settings to erase coloring progress, completed pages, learned words, quiz history, play time, and stars. Reset Progress does not remove the local child profile or app settings.

Parents can use Delete profile & all data to erase progress, the local child profile, and app settings and return ColorTalk to onboarding. ColorTalk has no server-side account or cloud copy of this data. The crash reports and usage counts are not linked to your child or to you. To ask us to delete them, email us (see Contact). An older iPad backup can still contain earlier app data until you replace or delete that backup.

Children's Privacy

ColorTalk is designed for children 5 and under and their families. We do not knowingly collect, sell, share, disclose, or use children's personal information. We do not use any data for advertising, tracking, or profiling. The anonymous crash reports and usage counts are used only to support and improve the app.

If a parent enters a child's first name or nickname and age in the Parents area, that information is stored locally on the iPad and in the iPad's own backups, if backups are on. It is used only to personalize the app experience on that iPad. The app does not ask the child for a name or age.

Changes

If ColorTalk's privacy practices change, we will update this policy before shipping the change. Any future feature that sends more data off the device, uses remote content, adds accounts, adds ads, or shares data with another third party would require a new privacy review and an updated policy.
